There are machining processes where it is not allowed to use coolant (emulsion, oil) for cooling the work point and the cutting tool, and yet it is important to cool the cutting tool in order to improve the cutting quality and to prolong the life of the cutting tool.
In these cases, it is preferred to use Smartec’s SVT (smart vortex tube), an air-cooling system for supplying cold air at high flow rates directly to the cutting point.
The principle of operation is based on an air vortex at a high rotation speed of about a million revolutions per minute that separates the hot air to the outer diameter of the vortex and the cold air remains in the center of the vortex.
The system is able to separate the cold air that is carried forward to the work area and the warm air that is carried backwards and diffuses into the environment.
The customer can control the cold air temperature, but lower temperature results in reduction of the cold air flow rate.
The customer can adjust the cooling intensity using a 4 mm Helen key inserted through the front cold opening (this can be done while the device is running). Clockwise rotation increases the temperature and increase the cold air flow, and counterclockwise rotation decreases the temperature and the cold air flow.
The system can be used with an air pressure of up to 8 bar (120 psi), the higher the pressure, the better performance (temperature and air flow).
Our system consists of only two parts (no moving parts), a base and a central screw used for temperature adjustment.
The base is manufactured using advanced technologies (3D printing) from a unique material that withstands high and low temperatures, highly durable and stable, with a low weight. Thanks to the printing technology, the part was designed with transitions and configurations that can only be produced using this method, which provide a significant improvement in the system’s efficiency and performances.
Since the base is made of a unique polymer material with a low heat transfer coefficient, there is no danger of finger burning (as in competing products which are made of metal) and there is no risk of corrosion. The product can be easily disassembled and washed in tap water for regular cleaning and maintenance when necessary.
In addition, our product has a unique structure, where the air pressure is connected to the back, unlike competitors whose air pressure inlet is from the side. This concept reduces the volume of the product, allowing easy installation even in places with limited space. The hot air exits through narrow openings to the back, these openings are designed to reduce the penetration of pollutants into the product and also to reduce the noise generated in the ventilation. It is possible to add an extra element that allows the hot air to be taken out of the work area and also to significantly reduce the noise. It is possible to connect a pipe to the cold air duct and thus lead the cold air very close to the work point.
